The DEFI, a bit of history
The Golf de Biscarrosse golf club began hosting the 1st edition of the DEFI in 1990, after just one year of existence. In its original version, the DEFI was played in 4 balls, 3 best balls with teams of 4 amateurs. Regional qualifiers took place all over the South West of France and the finale was held in Biscarrosse.
It was in 2001 that the DEFI took on a whole new dimension by becoming Pro-Am. 22 teams faced off in this new version.
The stroke play system is used in this competition on 36 holes equating to 18 holes per day. The game formula is 4 balls, 2 best balls and is played in teams of 4 players comprised of 1 pro and 3 amateurs with no index limit. 3/4 of the indexes are made with a maximum of 18 swings per player. The result is calculated by adding the two best balls per hole.
